At the invitation of Ambassador Marcus Ederer, Head of EU Delegation in the People's Republic of China, Ambassador Ante Simonić attended the meeting of EU Heads of Mission in Beijing on 13 December 2011. The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of 27 EU missions. Ambassador Ederer welcomed the Croatia accession to the EU, while Ambassador Simonić in his speech highlighted the importance of Croatian accession to the EU, Croatia’s commitment to European values and traditions and gratitude for the recognition of Croatia as a EU partner.

BEIJING, 12 November 2011

China Radio International and Croatian Embassy in Beijing organized the 3rd Charity Football Tournament. There were a four football teams competed at the Tournament.

The donations collected at the Tournament were given to the Shuang He Primary School from the Chinese Autonomous Province of  Ning Xia. The Croatian Embassy employees donated a notebooks and school accessories to the Shuang He Primary School. The director of the CRI together with the Croatian Ambassador H.E. Professor Ante Simonić and school master of the Shuang He School participated at the opening ceremony of the Event and handed over collected gifts and donations to the Shuang He School students.

The High-level Symposium on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) took place from 7-10 September 2011 in Beijing, China. It was co-organized by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the UNCSD Secretariat.
The Symposium aimed to facilitate in-depth discussions among government officials, experts and representatives from the UN system and Major Groups on both the objective and the two themes of Rio+20, with a view to formulating concrete proposals as a contribution to preparations for the Conference, to be held in Brazil in 2012.

Croatia was represented by 17 athletes who competed in athletics, gymnastics, sailing, judo, archery, shooting, taekwondo and tennis. Sailor Daniel Mihelić won the gold medal in the Laser Standard category.

The Ensemble visited China from 24 to 30 May at the invitation of the Association of the Chinese of Croatia and the Croatian-Chinese Friendship Society from the city of Dalian and participated at the 22nd Acacia flower festival held in Dalian at a ceremony called the Croatian Day.

Former President of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Stjepan Mesic paid a visit to China from 14 to 19 April 2011. Mr. Mesić participated in the 10th Asian Boao Economic Forum in the city of Shenzen, visited the largest Chinese telecommunications company Huawei and opened in the city of Yangzhou a memorial museum of Marco Polo. Three Croatain tennis players at "China Open 2009"

Croatian tennis players Marin Čilić, Ivan Ljubičić and Ivo Karlović had a small but strong fan support among the staff of the Croatian Embassy and a small group of Croatians working in Beijing during the tennis tournament China Open 2009.  The best placement was attained by Marin Čilić.  By defeating Nikolaj Davidenko, the eighth seeded player in the world and the first tournament winner and the second seeded Rafael Nadal, he reached the finals.  Following this tournament Marin Čilić ranked 13 on the ATP list.

Military parade with far the greatest number of civilian and military participants was held on 1 October 2009 to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.  Along the main street and at the large Tian'anmen Square in the heart of Beijing fifty-six phalanxes, consisting of 8,000 servicemen and women, nearly 500 tanks, missiles and other military vehicles and 151 warplanes, joined the parade. Shown were 52 types of weapons produced in the People's Republic of China, including the most modern nuclear missiles.

"Speaker Bebić and the Croatian Delegation with NPC Vice-Chairman Hua Jianmin, Beijing, 18 August 2009"

 

During their stay in Beijing on 17 and 18 August Speaker Bebić had four official meetings.  He met with his host Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the National People's Congress and with Mr. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.  Speaker Bebić was also received by Minister Wang Jiarui, Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China and Mr. Hua Janmin, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress.  All interlocutors thanked Speaker Bebić for a very successful visit by President Hu Jintao to Croatia in June, reiterated their friendship and high degree of political trust, the importance of regular exchange of visits, especially among the parliamentarians and political parties, and pledged their support for realization of concrete cooperation projects.  Special emphasis was placed on economic cooperation, with a focus on attracting Chinese tourists and investments to Croatia, including into the projects of transportation and tourist infrastructure.

State visit of President Hu Jintao to Croatia

President of the People's Republic of China Mr. Hu. Jintao paid an official visit to Croatia on 19 and 20 June 2009.  Besides his host, President of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Stjepan Mesić, he met with the President of the Government of the Republic of Croatia Dr. Ivo Sanader and the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Mr. Luka Bebić.  This was the first visit ever by a Chinese president to Croatia and, at the same time, to one of the successor States of the former Yugoslavia.
